Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about wallbox billing and ChargeReport.
General
What is ChargeReport?
ChargeReport automatically generates tax-compliant charging reports for company car drivers who charge their electric vehicle at home using their own wallbox. The report is sent as a PDF via email directly to the employer — as proof for electricity cost reimbursement.
How does wallbox billing for company cars work?
You connect your wallbox once to ChargeReport (cloud login or OCPP gateway). From then on, all charging sessions are automatically recorded. At your chosen interval (daily, monthly, quarterly or yearly), a PDF report is generated and sent to your employer. The report contains all sessions with kWh, date and the reimbursement amount.
Which wallboxes are supported?
ChargeReport supports 15 wallbox brands: Easee, Elli (VW), go-eCharger, Wallbox (Pulsar/Commander), Zaptec, myenergi Zappi, V2C Trydan, Charge Amps and Ohme via cloud connection. Fronius Wattpilot, KEBA KeContact, Mennekes Amtron, ABL, Alfen Eve and cFos Power Brain via OCPP gateway.
What is the OCPP gateway?
OCPP is an open standard for communication between wallboxes and backend systems. Many wallboxes that don't have a cloud API support OCPP 1.6J. ChargeReport runs an OCPP server — you simply enter a URL in your wallbox, and charging sessions are recorded automatically. No software installation needed.
Tax Regulations & Reimbursement
How does company car charging reimbursement work?
In many countries, employers can reimburse employees tax-free for electricity costs when charging a company car at home. In Germany, the BMF regulation specifies a flat rate of €0.34/kWh (since 2026). In the UK, HMRC sets Advisory Electricity Rates. ChargeReport generates the compliant documentation needed for these reimbursements.
Can I use my own electricity tariff?
Yes. If your actual electricity price is higher than the standard flat rate, you can enter your own tariff in ChargeReport. The report will then use your individual rate.
Are ChargeReport reports accepted by tax authorities?
Yes. The PDF reports contain all required information: name, address, license plate, wallbox ID, individual charging sessions with date/time/kWh, the reimbursement rate and legal references. Employers can use the reports as proof for tax-free reimbursement.
Does ChargeReport work outside Germany?
Yes. ChargeReport works in any country where employers reimburse employees for home charging. The app supports 8 languages and can be configured with country-specific tax rates. Currently optimized for Germany (BMF), Austria, UK (HMRC) and other EU countries.
